Daddy in Waiting | The Exciting, Scary, Life Changing Path to Fatherhood

Anxiety coupled with equal excitement is the soup of the day, and I am cooking up tonnes. I have always hoped to have a child (or eight), and shortly after I met my girlfriend Demi (Tata), 23 months ago, I was convinced that it would be a serious relationship and that one of us would get the other pregnant.

From the very first time I interacted with her, I concluded that her qualities were exactly that of the type of person I dreamt of spending the remainder of my life with. While her cooking is on par with Donald Trump’s ability to pronounce Puerto Rico, or, Kim Jun Un’s ability to vote in a US election, her character, compassion, devotion and disposition are as pure as feathers from a new-born dove. Her sweet soul, tender gaze, suffocating hugs, forgetfulness

Belize’s Forgotten Fishing Village

In late August I visited Seine Bight Village. Small village wedged between million dollar homes to its north, and luxurious resorts in the more frequently visited, more “tourist friendly” , Placencia, at the south.

And I realised, no one ever really visits Seine Bight (unless, of course, there’s family to visit). It’s always just a drive-through en route to Placencia. I felt guilty for never stopping before, and for thinking there’s nothing there to see or do.
After stopping, being welcomed into to the homes of long-time dwellers, listing to testimonials of the village women, learning about Seine Bight’s colorful history and it’s present struggles from their village chairman; I came to an even greater realisation: Seine Bight is the real Gem of the Peninsula. It’s were the Garifuna tradition is still being practiced- not only on November 19th, but everyday! Though Seine Bight may not be rich like it’s neighbors, It’s so very RICH in culture, and that’s what truly makes it more beautiful!

The villagers are warm, welcoming and genuinely happy (let’s not forget strong- really strong!) ! It almost made me not want to believe the statistics I’ve read. Everybody knows everybody, and every woman is referred to as ‘Auntie’ and every man ‘Unlce’ (whether it’s a relative or not). I was being called ‘mama’ by our sweet hostess, Gran’ Castillo 🤗 (Her hudut- to die for). I’ve never felt so welcomed before!

I’m so thrilled to be working with this resilient community, and to be a part of a group actively working in helping them preserve their culture. I can’t wait for my next visit!
Expect to see big things from this small village!

Living a Dream at the Belizean Dreams Resort

This past September my boyfriend surprised me with a weekend getaway to Belizean Dreams Resort. Nestled in the quaint village of Hopkins, in Belize’s Southern District of Stann Creek, Belizean Dreams Resort offers one of the Best escapes from the hustle and bustle of city life!

My stay there (from start to end) was nothing short of INCREDIBLE!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by the courteous and friendly staff members who quickly got us settled into what would become our home for the weekend.

Our Suite was perfumed by the smell of the beautiful wooden flooring and decor which gave off a cozy, tree house -in-the-woods type of vibe (try to picture a 5-star tree house though). Tall glass doors opened up to the breathtaking view of the pool, the sea, and the perfectly manicured lawn decorated with brightly colored tropical flowers.

The breathtaking view from our suite!

The menu of food and drinks was great! Guests are treated with a complimentary, signature drink upon arrival; it’s called the Mosquito Bite, and it’s a slushy concoction of pure awesomeness! It serves as a great option to cool you off while basking in the sun by the pool side or on the beach (just a few short steps away). And the curry shrimp with white rice, which i had on my first night, was just simply delicious!

Don’t be shy to ask for breakfast in bed! That was my most enjoyed luxury while there. After a long night of chatting, dancing, and enjoying the complimentary bottle of Champagne (a thoughtful birthday gift on behalf of the owner and staff), waking up to get dressed for breakfast would have surely been a chore. Lucky for me, breakfast was arranged by my boyfriend from the night before, and we were able to have a delicious Belizean breakfast in bed, wrapped up on cozy robes, all while enjoying a gorgeous sea view!

Breakfast in Bed were Hot Belizean Fry Jacks with a delicious side of re-fried beans, scrambled eggs and fresh locl fruits!

Try the three water activities they have to offer: Sailing, Kayaking, and Paddle boarding! I wasn’t successful with either of the two I tried, but I had a blast laughing at myself struggling anyway!

The worst part of this trip was leaving! I wanted to live the Belizean Dreams a little longer! They haven’t seen the last me of though ;)!

Don’t take my word for it though- go experience the Belizean Dream for yourself! Visit the  Belizean Dreams Resort Website to learn of their different packages and  book your trip today!
